I love the weekends.
As much as I love my work, I avoid it during the weekends because working on the weekends only leads to burnout at some point.
So, I intentionally take a step back and just relax. On Saturdays, I do all my chores and prepare for the week.
But Sundays are just for taking a breather.
It’s the one day that feels like a gentle pause between the chaos of last week and the uncertainty of the next.
Some Sundays are meant for catching up with friends or getting things done, but my absolute favorite Sundays?
The ones I spend completely alone—slow, peaceful, and entirely mine.
Spending a Sunday alone isn’t lonely.
It’s freeing.
I wish I could sometimes go back to my younger days and tell myself to just relax on the damn Sunday instead of looking for friends to meet.
Sundays are the chance to move at your own pace, to do what feels good without worrying about anyone else.
It’s drinking coffee in bed, getting lost in a book, cooking a meal just for yourself, or simply doing nothing at all.
If you’re craving a slow, cozy Sunday filled with small joys and quiet moments, here are 21 ways to make the most of it.

1. Start Your Morning with a Slow, Cozy Breakfast
No rushing.
No grabbing a protein bar on the way out the door.
A cozy Sunday breakfast means making something warm, comforting, and just for you.
Maybe it’s fluffy banana pancakes drizzled with syrup, a buttery croissant with jam, or scrambled eggs with toast.
Whatever it is, sit down, take your time, and enjoy it.
2. Stay in Pajamas as Long as You Want
One of the best things about a Sunday alone? No dress code.
There’s no need to put on jeans or real clothes unless you feel like it.
Stay in your softest pajamas, wrap yourself in a blanket, and just enjoy the feeling of being completely at ease.
I’m currently enjoying this set I bought on Amazon – it’s so soft and feminine, I love it!
3. Light a Candle or Turn on Soft Lighting
Lighting changes everything.
Instead of harsh overhead lights, turn on a warm lamp or light a cozy candle with a scent that makes you feel calm.
It also makes me feel like I’m living in a cozy cottage.
Soft, flickering light instantly makes any space feel peaceful and inviting.
4. Make a Warm Drink and Sip It Slowly
Pour yourself a big mug of something warm—tea, hot chocolate, or a creamy chai latte.
I’m a chai girl, since coffee doesn’t agree with me. And I cherish every sip.
On Sundays, I enjoy it while reading a book.
If you’re looking for cozy reads, check out my post on 11 books that give Studio Ghibli Vibes.
Hold it with both hands.
Feel the warmth. Let yourself savor each sip instead of gulping it down.
5. Put on a Relaxing Playlist
My mum loved The Carpenters.
And although I lost her 4 years ago, I still listen to this playlist 3-4 times a week. That music helps comfort me in a strange, soothing way. It’s difficult to explain.
But music has the power to set the tone for your entire day.
A cozy Sunday deserves a playlist that feels soft and soothing—maybe a little jazz, acoustic covers, or piano instrumentals.
Something that makes you breathe a little deeper.
6. Read a Book Without Any Distractions
Find a quiet corner, grab a blanket, and dive into a book you’ve been meaning to read. Let yourself get lost in the story without checking your phone or worrying about anything else.
I’ve started putting my phone on airplane mode in the evenings (when I’m winding down for bed) and reading. Because I genuinely like a distraction-free evening.
7. Watch a Comfort Movie or Cozy TV Show
Sometimes, Sundays call for a little screen time. Watch an old favorite movie or a TV show that feels like a warm hug.
Maybe it’s a Studio Ghibli film, a lighthearted rom-com, or a feel-good drama. Bonus points if you watch it under a cozy blanket.
My older pup loves sleeping on my lap when I’m watching a slow movie. She likes the sounds and finds them comforting.
8. Journal Your Thoughts or Write a Letter to Yourself
A quiet Sunday is the perfect time to check in with yourself.
I have a post here on how to write a letter to yourself.
How are you feeling? What’s been on your mind lately?
Journaling doesn’t have to be deep or poetic—it can just be a simple brain dump.
If journaling isn’t your thing, try writing a letter to your future self instead.
9. Take a Long, Hot Shower or Bath
Turn your bathroom into a mini spa.
Use your favorite body wash, exfoliate your skin, and let the hot water melt away the stress from the past week.
If you have a bathtub, add some bath salts or essential oils for the ultimate relaxation.
Use this opportunity to condition your hair and after you finish your shower, put on a cream that makes you smell like a cake.
It’s the ultimate form of relaxation for me.
10. Go for a Slow Walk Outside
Even if it’s chilly, bundle up and take a walk.
No destination, no rush—just a slow, mindful walk to breathe in the fresh air and appreciate the world around you.
11. Bake Something Sweet Just for You
Cookies, banana bread, cinnamon rolls—something warm and homemade that fills your space with the smell of comfort.
And the best part?
You don’t have to share.
I like making french toast when I’m alone – it’s something my mum often made for me when I was younger.
12. Declutter a Small Space
A cozy home feels light and uncluttered.
Pick one small area—a nightstand, a junk drawer, your bathroom shelf—and tidy it up.
This weekend, I’m decluttering my office drawers. It’s about time, I threw out those old papers I’m not using.
Even five minutes of organizing can make your space feel fresh and peaceful.
13. Do a Creative Hobby
Paint, knit, draw, write, play an instrument—whatever makes you feel creative and inspired.
I’ve taken to cozy puzzles like these recently and I can’t tell you how much time I’ve passed just finishing these!
Let yourself make something just for fun, without worrying about whether it’s good or not.
14. Wrap Yourself in a Blanket and Do Absolutely Nothing
No phone, no book, no distractions.
Just you, wrapped in warmth, staring out the window or lying on the couch. It’s okay to do nothing for a little while.
It saddens me to realize that we now live in a world where we cannot sit still for even a second.
The minute we try to quieten down, our phones automatically flip out our phones just to scroll on social media.
It’s become a disease that we need to erradicate.
15. Light Incense or Use Essential Oils
Scents have a way of shifting our mood.
Try lavender for relaxation, citrus for energy, or vanilla for comfort. Let the fragrance fill your space while you unwind.
16. Write Down Everything You’re Grateful For
A cozy Sunday is the perfect time to reflect on the little joys in life.
I remember feeling very upset for the past few weeks due to my gut issues. I’m currently on a very restrictive diet because my gut is in bad shape and cannot digest most foods.
But I realized that there was so much I had to be grateful for. I have 2 wonderful dogs, a beautiful home office that I can write and draw in, and most of all, I love that I never run out of things to do.
Grab a notebook and write down 10 things you’re grateful for—big or small.
It’s an instant mood booster.
17. Stretch or Do a Gentle Yoga Flow
A few minutes of slow stretching can make your whole body feel better.
Focus on deep breathing and moving gently—no intense workouts are needed.
You can also meditate. Just do what feels natural to you.
18. Watch the Sunset with a Warm Drink
End your day with a moment of stillness.
Pour a cup of tea, step outside, or sit by a window, and watch the sky change colors as the sun sets.
19. Treat Yourself to an At-Home Spa Night
Put on a face mask, moisturize your skin, and pamper yourself like you deserve. Exfoliate your skin or just take care of yourself.
20. Plan Something You’re Excited About
Give yourself something to look forward to.
It could be a new book, a solo day trip, or even just a recipe you want to try next weekend.
Write it down and start feeling excited.
21. End the Day in a Cozy Bedtime Routine
A slow, cozy Sunday should end just as gently as it started.
Change into fresh pajamas, dim the lights, and settle into bed without scrolling endlessly on your phone. Maybe read a few pages of a book, sip a cup of herbal tea, or just lay in bed and enjoy the quiet.
A cozy Sunday alone is a gift.
It’s a day to recharge, slow down, and enjoy your own company.
