Finding the right foundation has been one of my biggest hurdles regarding makeup.
Because it took me a lot of time to understand my skin type and undertone, I never got it right initially.
It was only after my makeup artist friend accompanied me to Sephora and explained how to choose the right foundation that I found what worked for me.
And yes, I have personally tried and tested all these foundations, and they’re all exceedingly good for oily skin.
If you have acne and want to clear your skin, read my personal blog post on how I managed to clear my skin in 10 weeks.
I will cover all budget types so that you can pick one that suits your needs best.
Let’s begin, shall we?

1. L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Finish
Skin type: All (works great on oily skin) | Formula: Creamy | Finish: Matte | Coverage: Medium to High
This foundation is for anyone who has oily skin and wants a matte finish.
It does oxidize ever-so-slightly, so please test 2-3 shades and wear it for a few hours before buying.
The coverage is buildable.
A little goes a long way.
NOTE: Please do not dry your skin before applying the foundation. It is matte, so it will become patchy. Remember to moisturize your skin before applying this foundation (I’m currently using this beautiful primer, which works as a moisturizer too!)—it will spread and sit beautifully.
What I love about this foundation is that it stays put and doesn’t melt off your face.
This foundation did not irritate or dry out my skin and I loved the fact that it hid all my redness and acne scars.
2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place SPF 10 Makeup Foundation
Skin type: All (works great on oily skin) | Formula: Creamy | Finish: Matte | Coverage: High to Full
This is my current foundation and I love, love, love it.
It spreads evenly and beautifully, and it’s buildable. Since most of my acne scars are on my cheeks and chin, I use more of it on the lower part of my face, and it still looks clean and lovely.
Even if I have a huge cyst or a terrible breakout, this is the only foundation I can use that won’t draw attention to the pimple.
I still moisturize my face before applying the foundation and follow with a translucent powder and my makeup lasts all day!
3. Clinique Even Better Clinical Serum Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF
Skin type: All (works great on oily/combination skin) | Formula: Liquid | Finish: Matte | Coverage: High to Full
This foundation has amazing coverage.
I currently use Clinique and Estee Lauder.
I like that both of these foundations don’t settle into my fine lines and give me full coverage.
It’s amazing because, despite the full coverage, the foundation is actually very lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy at all!
If you have a lot of hyperpigmentation or acne scars like I do, then both of these foundations will look so good on you.
Just remember to moisturize well before you apply this foundation because you don’t want it to become patchy or look cakey.
4. Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Oil-Free Foundation Makeup
Skin type: Normal to Oily | Formula: Liquid | Finish: Matte | Coverage: Medium
This is another foundation I used to use a few years ago that I genuinely loved. I always got the small packs because I couldn’t afford the glass bottle.
I still have good memories of those days.
What I love about Maybelline is that it is a very inclusive brand that covers a wide range of skin tones and undertones.
It has a natural skin finish (as do all the foundations in this list) and is cruelty-free.
It’s not a full-coverage so if you might have to go in with a concealer if you have acne or pigmentation.
Please note that this is not a long-lasting foundation. It only lasts about 12 hours.
So if you’re going to an event please check out the Clinique or Estee Lauder foundation.

5. TIRTIR Mask Fit Red Cushion Foundation | Japan’s No.1 Choice for Glass skin
I gave in to the TikTok reels and finally got my hands on these.
It’s worth the purchase!
Most cushion foundations are a little patchy, but not this one!
It looks better the longer you wear it. I’ve tested this with and without primer—it works beautifully. True to its name, it’s flawless and extremely full-coverage.
I finish this with a powder and a setting spray.
Please remember that a little goes a long way! It does oxidize slightly, but it’s not very noticeable.
